Mac DeMarco is SO Canadian… watch him perform a Neil Young cover for XMU
And the most Canadian moment of 2017 goes to… Mac DeMarco!
While promoting his latest album, This Old Dog, the Alberta-native stopped by our New York City studios to record an exclusive session for SiriusXMU (Ch. 35).
After performances of Dreams from Yesterday, Still Beating and My Old Man, DeMarco paid homage to fellow Canadian musician Neil Young, who hails from Toronto, Ontario, with a cover of Unknown Legend, off of Young’s 1992 album Harvest Moon.
About halfway through the song, DeMarco added a funny little spoken-word dedication for “Uncle Neil.”
“Thank you for blessing us with your music for so many years,” he said. “Although many people may not consider you Canadian, or even know, we know the truth, Neil, and we love you for it. Just a nice boy from a small town in northern Ontario. Us boys, we’re from out west: Edmonton, Alberta. I’m sure you graced our prairies once or twice or three times. This one’s for Neil, baby!”
