The Kings and Ducks face off + more NHL Games of the Week
Saturday, November 23rd – 4 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Minnesota Wild at Calgary Flames
With the hot start the Winnipeg Jets have enjoyed (16-and-3 in their first 19 games), it’s taken pretty much everything the Wild have just to keep the runaway Jets in sight. And that they’ve done. The Wild also only suffered 3 losses in their first 18 games, good enough for second spot in the contentious Central Division. Their host tonight has surprised many people by winning games out of the gate in a season where most expected the Flames to begin the slow rebuilding process.
Sunday, November 24th – 7 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Utah Hockey Club at Toronto Maple Leafs
A rare Sunday night game in Toronto, as the Maple Leafs welcome in Utah for the first time. Toronto has had to make do without captain Auston Matthews due to injury, and with the team winning, there has been very little pressure to rush the sniper back into the lineup. The relocated Coyotes are bursting with young talent, but that doesn’t always immediately equate to a playoff spot.
Monday, November 25th – 7 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Washington Capitals at Florida Panthers
Alex Ovechkin is playing like he did 10 years ago, which is a big reason why the Capitals have been a pleasant surprise this season. Unfortunately, shortly after scoring his league-leading 15th goal of the season, Ovie went down with an injury, and the team declared him “week-to-week.” The Capitals have also received steady goaltending and impressive team play in all aspects of the game. Tonight, they get to test all that early success against the defending Stanley Cup champions, who recently split a pair of games against the red-hot Winnipeg Jets.
Tuesday, November 26th – 7 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Vancouver Canucks at Boston Bruins
After a less than stellar start, the Bruins parted ways a week ago with head coach Jim Montgomery, hoping to jump-start the B’s before the season slips away. It’s been said…by head coach Rick Tocchet..that the Canucks have to start playing better. Two teams expected to be standing in a playoff spot once the regular-season smoke clears, and two teams that expected to be sporting a better Win-Loss record 20 games into the regular season.
Wednesday, November 27th – 10 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche
It took a while, but the Avalanche are beginning to play like, well, the Colorado Avalanche. It helps that they’ve started to get some of their injured players back. Tonight, they clash with a Knights’ team that has quietly gone about its business so far, racking up points in the Pacific Division.
Thursday, November 28th – NO NHL GAMES TODAY
Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends, listeners, and neighbours.
Friday, November 29th – 3:30 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Los Angeles Kings at Anaheim Ducks
Those turkey sandwiches (always with cranberry sauce) go well with afternoon hockey action. How about The Freeway Faceoff? While the Ducks are still a ways away from once again being a Western Conference playoff contender (those uniforms, though, are fantastic!), the rival Kings find themselves in the thick of the race for the top spot in the Pacific Division…which has surprised a lot of people, maybe even the Kings.
